Creative Niche at St. Lawrence College

Recently, Debra Sharpe, Vice President of Creative Service, and Christel Gallant, Client Services Manager of Creative Niche’s Ottawa office presented to thirty graphic design students of St. Lawrence College about industry standards, the ever growing need for web designers, and resume and portfolio building. The students learned in detail how to present your portfolio work, how to describe the journey of the piece to display the problem solving aspect and help the employer understand the visuals. “Market yourself for what the employer is looking for, highlight stories in your resume to reflect your portfolio and be your best self when interviewing”, says Debra.

Creative Niche Ottawa will be collaborating with St. Lawrence College to play a part in the changing curriculum, updating to match industry needs by consulting on course content and helping to find qualified professors. This was the beginning of a new partnership to offer students an advantage in the job market by having the most in-demand skills in their tool kit. “It is interesting to meet the next generation of talent to see what they’re learning, but also to help guide their education and to be connected to the education system to help develop needs,”says Christel, "it’s important to know what skills and technology are emerging, and to have that connection with the community to create a shared value between the students of St. Lawrence College and Creative Niche"
